MBA Admissions
The admissions requirements
You will have to have completed the CBA successfully with a GPA of 3.0 or above - or a minimun of 3.4 if you do not have a first degree in good standing (e.g., Bachelor's, Master's or HD Diploma). Candidates will normally attend an Admissions Interview.
The Admissions Interview is held in English and you will be asked to prepare a 10 minute presentation based on a business case with some questions.
You will receive the business case and the questions when you sign up for the interview with the MBA Program Manager (and will have a week to prepare the case).
Final decisions on admission will be made by the Admissions Committee.
The Admissions Committee will emphasize:
- Successful completion of CBA with the required GPA
- Ambition and drive
- Minimum 5 years of Business and/or management experience
- Candidate personal profile and leadership potential
- English language skills
- all to ensure a class composition which will maximize the personal learning experience of the participants.
The Admissions Interview
The purpose of the Admissions Interview is to establish that:
- The candidate meets the Admissions Requirements
- That a complete application form has been submitted including all appendices (proof of prior academic experience etc)
- The candidate has support from a sponsoring company as well as from his/her family
- The candidate understands the contents, structure and Intended Learning Objectives of the MBA program and that the MBA program matches the expectations and needs of the candidate
The Admissions Interview takes place at AVT Business School - or in exceptional cases, via Skype.
The duration of the interview is approximately 1 hour.
It is important that a completed application form with all appendices is submitted to AVT prior to the Admissions Interview. The MBA Program Manager will assist you in determining when the application form and appendices are complete and sufficient for the admissions process.
Your first step is to contact the MBA Program Manager and tget the the Application Form.
The Admissions Committee:
- Jonathan Black-Branch, D.Phil., Ph.D., Barrister, Academic Dean
- Per Junker Thiesgard, B.Sc., MBA, Associate Dean
What about GMAT?
AVT does not require the GMAT in our admissions procedure - but you are of course welcome to submit your test results, if you have taken the GMAT. Every year thousands of MBA applicants world-wide take the GMAT - General Management Admission Test - in order to qualify for studying an MBA. The test is very useful in determining specific elements of the study capability of an MBA student, but is of most value when assessing younger candidates who have no or little working experience to back-up their application. The test is therefore mainly used for full-time MBA programs which normally attract a younger class.
We apply a holistic view on your profile: taking into account your previous studies, career and results.
Since all MBA participants have ample experience and a solid career track, we do not require the GMAT.
If, however you are interested in learning more about the GMAT and perhaps taking the test, you can find more information on the GMAC web-site: http://www.gmac.com/gmac/thegmat/gmatbasics/whatthegmatmeasures.htm
