Background
Companies and their leaders face enormous challenges in the current economic and geopolitical climate. The economic power shift from West to East provides new opportunities for innovative companies. Some economists in Europe argue that we are looking at a decade of low economic growth in the European Union, the so-called “lost decade”. This may be true for some companies but it does not have to be the case for all companies.
In this world of transition, good leadership and innovation will make the difference and are the key to growth. There are many examples of companies, even in these challenging economic times that have been able to grow at impressive rates. A well-known example is Apple Corporation, which through innovative consumer products and its leadership was able to grow into one of the largest companies in the world. Hundreds of millions of consumers in China, India and other emerging markets will attain purchasing power levels similar to that of Danish consumers in the next decade providing significant opportunities for Scandinavian companies.
Offering innovative sustainable solutions to customers will be essential for the development and growth of today’s firm. Scandinavian companies must draw from innovative leadership and creativity as a company value. Companies able to do this successfully will hold an important key to the future.
