Live Case MBA 2012

Maersk Line is the partner company for the MBA 2012 Live Case. This special real life case builds on the ‘Business Ethics and CSR’ course taught by professor David Vogel, UC Berkeley Haas School of Business. Marianne Toftegaard is the Live Case Coach.

Partner Company

Maersk Line (ML) is the largest shipping company in the world. Part of the A.P. Møller – Maersk Group, the company has been working with sustainability since 2009.

ML has used sustainability as a key driver of innovation and has established a leadership position in this area.

The company is determined to reduce not only CO2 but also sulfur emissions. Towards this goal, they developed an independently verified benchmarking system that allows key customers to track their shipments’ CO2 emissions and compare it to the industry average.

The Challenge

The 2012 live case explores how to drive business growth through sustainability, while acting as a change agent that connects smallholder banana farmers in India to the global value chains.

ML is a world-class provider of refrigerated transportation services and has relevant knowledge and skills to offer stakeholders across the Indian banana value chain. However this opportunity also poses a number of dilemmas, issues and potential risks.

The live case offers a unique opportunity for AVT MBA students to use all their newly acquired skills and innovative thinking to devise solutions for a real world case that unfolds real-time.
