Globally Responsible Leadership

Beautiful visions of a better world are easy to establish. It is much harder to carry those principles out in practice. To change this, the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative (GRLI) was established to help businesses and business schools to work together and develop insights and best practices.

Real case study

MBA students work with the GRLI though a “live case” – a current challenge or dilemma that a global company is facing.

The MBA class works on these challenges together with their live case coach, and present and discuss their findings with the company.

In this way, MBA participants get a unique insight into the operations of a Danish-based global company and this new management discipline. And the company finds new ways to make the GRLI work in practice and receive ideas for competitive advantage and profitability.

Through such practical learning actions, an understanding of the elements of globally responsible leadership is developed. Important insights are gained and by reporting these back to the GRLI, the results are shared both with research and other businesses around the world.

Previous GRLI courses

In 2008-2009 the MBA class worked together with Grundfos. In 2009-2010 the MBA class partnered with Carlsberg Group, and in 2010-2011 the MBA class worked together with LEGO Group. In 2011-2012, the MBA class is working with Maersk Line on the “live case” project.

The Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative

The Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative (GRLI) has existed as an initiative for some years, but in October 2007 a formal foundation was established in Brussels and AVT was one of the signing partners together with EFMD (Belgium), The Center for Creative Leadership (USA), IESE business school (Spain), Queen’s University (Canada) and the Oasis School for Human Relations (UK).

A unique – and global – partnership

The GRLI is a unique partnership between global companies, business schools and centres for leadership and learning focusing on how to develop a next generation of globally responsible leaders – and among the actions is a re-design of the MBA for the future.

Think Big – Act Small – Start Now

AVT will be an active member and you will hear much more about this initiative. We have already introduced Corporate Social Responsibility, Business Ethics and Managing Across Diversity in the CBA and MBA curriculum. But we will continue to show concrete action in the coming years – and not only in the curriculum.

AVT will also participate in ground-breaking experimentations on management and leadership together with distinguished partners from all over the world. We will Think Big, and contribute with our piece to the whole. And we start now.

AVT GRLI Action: The Globally Responsible Leadership MBA

Read more about the exciting AVT learning action - The Globally Responsible Leadership MBA - which AVT has launched in September 2008 with support from Danish global pump-producer, Grundfos.

On 19 November 2008, AVT and Grundfos supported a conference on Happy Capitalism organized by the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies (CIFS). You can read more about the conference, “Don’t Stop 08″ here.

An exciting community of thought leaders

GRLI is a truly exciting community, and GRLI is a front-runner in the United Nations programs for management development and the UNGC (UN Global Compact) is a partner in GRLI.

Currently 50 business schools and businesses from all over the world participate as partners – just like AVT.

What is GRLI about?

The best way to understand the challenge that GRLI will participate in solving via thought leadership, advocacy and concrete actions is to watch the video below.

The video is the introduction to the GRLI meeting held in Mumbai in April 2008 and it has been prepared by the host, Welingkar Business School, Mumbai, India.
